All About Our Studio
The Make Spot is a custom-built sewing studio and creative space. Located in beautiful and historic Portskewett, near Chepstow, the gateway to Wales, our modern and fresh studio has a community spirit and friendly vibe where anyone is welcome to sew and make. We run special workshops and courses, seasonal events and more.

On foot
The Make Spot is situated in the charming village of Portskewett, near Chepstow. A comfortable stroll from the main village centre, our studio is easily accessible for local residents looking for a creative escape.
Bicycle, e-scooter and e-bike
For those cycling to The Make Spot, or coming by e-scooter or e-bike, you can leave your bicycle or equipment safely at the studio. The rural roads and scenic surroundings of Portskewett offer a pleasant cycling experience. Route 4 on the Better By Bike Cycle Planner skirts just past the studio.
Bus
Portskewett is served by local bus services, providing convenient connections to and from surrounding areas. The nearest bus stops to The Make Spot are located on Main Road within 100m or so, offering easy access to our studio. These services connect Portskewett to Chepstow, Caldicot, and other nearby towns, making it a convenient option for visitors from the wider region. Check your maps/route planner app for bus services and up-to-date timetable information.
Car
- From the East:
- Via M48: Take exit junction 2, follow the A466 towards Chepstow, and then take the B4245 to Portskewett.
- Via M4: Take exit junction 23, follow the M48 to junction 2, and then proceed as above.
- From the West:
- Ample parking is available in the village near The Make Spot.
Train
The closest train station is Caldicot, a few miles west of The Make Spot, or Chepstow, just 5 miles to the east. However, for national services, Severn Tunnel Junction may be more appropriate. Located just a few miles from Portskewett, it offers wider rail connections to national services onward to the UK. From each station, you can take a taxi or a bus for the short journey to The Make Spot.
By Air
The nearest major airports are Bristol Airport and Cardiff Airport
- Bristol Airport: Upon landing, you can rent a car or take a taxi for the approximately 35-mile journey to Portskewett. The drive typically takes around an hour, depending on traffic, and offers scenic views as you enter the beautiful Welsh countryside. For those preferring public transportation, airport bus services connect Bristol Airport to Bristol Temple Meads train station, from where you can catch a train to Severn Tunnel Junction or Chepstow and continue your journey via bus or taxi to Portskewett.
- Cardiff Airport: The airport is approximately 40 miles from Portskewett. You can hire a car at the airport and enjoy a scenic drive of about an hour through the beautiful Welsh landscape to reach Portskewett. Alternatively, there are taxi services available at the airport for a direct journey to The Make Spot. If you prefer public transport, take a bus or a train from Cardiff Airport to Cardiff Central railway station, and then catch a train to Severn Tunnel Junction. From Severn Tunnel Junction, it's just a short taxi ride to The Make Spot in Portskewett.
By Boat
While boat services are available in Chepstow along the River Wye, they do not directly serve Portskewett. However, for visitors looking to combine their visit with a scenic river trip, it's a charming option before completing your journey to The Make Spot by road or rail!

Our studio is all on one level. There is an entrance threshold but we can offer assistance if required to help with accessibility.
Opening Times
Our opening times are customised to our courses, events and workshops. We don't operate a drop-in service, but if you want to come in and peruse our fabrics irl when we aren't running a session, please just get in touch and we'll be happy to help!
Facilities
Seating
Our studio seats up to 12 people around a single table for hand sewing and other craft events. We tend to limit our machine sewing to six as this gives a great amount of useable space around each machine for you to spread out fabrics without getting in each others’ way. Our custom-built table can split into a smaller separate cutting table when needed too which our customers love.
Refreshments
We have a custom-built kitchenette with tea and coffee making facilities which are complimentary for the entire duration of your classes and workshops.
Toilet
We have a beautiful wc continuing our japandi decor theme including natural woods and beautiful porcelain
Free Wifi
Free wifi is available to all customers of The Make Spot. Please ask for details when you're here.
Cloakroom
There’s plenty of space to hang coats and bags safely out of the way.
Additional Information
The custom-designed building is fully insulated with modern building techniques and underfloor heating to give a comfortable temperature all year round.

We stock a closely curated range of quality fabrics and threads, and are the exclusive stockist of Liberty fabric in the area. We are proud suppliers of Dashwood Studios fabrics, Mettler threads, Nina Lee, Janet Clare and Sew Over It patterns, as well as a range of quality sewing accessories. We have most everything you'll need during any of your classes, events or workshops, and you're welcome to enjoy a 10% discount on all fabric purchases during your sessions.

Our studio was custom-built for the perfect sewing experience! Nestled in amongst the trees in the beautiful village of Portskewett, we designed the studio to cater for 12 hand-sewers or 6 machines.
